Reflection, Change and Choice

Mesulam (2002, p. 26), an expert on prefrontal cortex, wrote that prefrontal cortex gives us the capacity for reflection, Change and Choice. He, however, added that prefrontal cortex has not “specified the nature of choices, the contents of the reflections, or the direction of the changes.” This statement of the Mesulam is very important for educational systems. How should we create educational spaces for reflection on life’s important issues? What are the most important changes that children/teenagers should think about? Or, how to empower children/teenagers in their attempts to specify the nature of their choices?
